Strip club bartender in all black7/1/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() These famous individuals visited the Cork because they felt at home. The historic bar opened in the 1940s back then, it was a popular gathering spot for Black locals, touring musicians, and legendary clientele like Cab Calloway, Ella Fitzgerald, and Sarah Vaughan. In early 2020, the Black Hour’s organizers were still mourning the Cork’s abrupt closure five months earlier, in September. As one of the few remaining Black-owned bars in all of Los Angeles, the Living Room, a South LA institution, needed new life and fresh revenue streams, something the Black Hour’s organizers hoped to bring to it. All of these bars were cherished spaces for those living in the neighborhood and the Black community beyond. In recent years, gentrification brought on the closures of beloved Black-owned watering holes like the Cork, Crenshaw Live, and the Brownstone on Pico. The Living Room is one of the few Black-owned bars left in Southern California. The Black Hour’s organizers hoped to bring deeper awareness to LA’s disappearing Black-owned bars with a multigenerational meetup over strong cocktails. Once or twice a month, this group traveled from places like Long Beach, Jefferson Park, Inglewood, Northeast LA, or Crenshaw to hang out at the Living Room. I was researching a story about the Black Hour, a series of happy hours that drew an attractive mix of Southern California’s young Black professionals. Gavin Newsom called for Angelenos to shelter in place, I spent a lot of time at the Living Room. Outside the Living Room in West Adams Wonho Frank Lee The selections are an ideal mix of old and new school, funky enough to prompt adjacent apartment building residents to open their windows and enjoy the sounds. On Friday nights, Susan hires a DJ who spins the likes of Aaliyah, Maxwell, Missy Elliott, and Luther Vandross. Carnell is following the rules laid out by California’s Alcoholic Beverage Control board, which requires cocktails to be served with food while indoor dining and drinking are restricted, so customers order barbecue, burgers, and Mexican fare from Tiffany’s Catering. Since Carnell reopened the Living Room on August 24, patrons have taken to hanging out in the rear parking lot to drink and eat on high-top tables under shade structures. In fall 2020, no one rings the bell anymore. During pre-pandemic times, that person might be a bartender, the owner, Susan Carnell, or one of the many older patrons who sit on those barstools to hang out on Crenshaw just south of Adams Boulevard. It’s striking how loud and satisfying it is, but its only purpose is to notify someone to open the locked metal gate. That may be why it’s so comforting that the Living Room’s vintage “ding dong” chime sounds exactly as you would imagine. Slightly further down on Adams Boulevard, construction and demolition activity is frequent, and popular restaurants like Alta Adams and Mizlala are only blocks away. Two doors away from Phillips is a modern, 50-unit, five-story apartment building completed in 2019. It’s impossible to miss the change happening nearby. ![]()

Female version of helios sailor moon7/1/2023 ![]() ![]() We’re only a year away from embarking on the last leg of this journey, one 25 years in the making: an animated adaptation of the final arc of the manga with its original premise and original ending. Considering the size and fervor of the Sailor Moon fanbase, and what a guaranteed commercial success Crystal was bound to be, many fans took this as a slap in the face, especially after such a long wait to see the manga’s story animated, but Toei course-corrected immediately, improving the animation in the show’s second season and giving it a complete overhaul in its third with a new art director. ![]() However, while the story was faithful, the animation quality, particularly in the first season, was less that stellar. Thus the great appeal of Sailor Moon Crystal was a faithful adaptation of the manga, and that’s exactly what the fans got. Some of these filler eps are good, some are bad, and which are which is entirely subjective, but one thing all the fans can agree on is that the original manga story was not accurately represented, especially in the later seasons, which bear little resemblance to the source material outside the characters’ visual designs and names. The most notable of these was the telescoping of the narrative with the inclusion of filler episodes, roughly tripling the length of each arc. Due to production schedules and the fact that the manga was being written more or less concurrently with Sailor Moon ’92, the anime deviated from the manga in several significant ways. The Sailor Moon franchise has had a somewhat fraught production history, first with the original 1992 anime, then again for different reasons with Crystal in the 2010s. This final arc will bring in fan favorite characters (and fetish ball inspirations) the Sailor Starlights, the polarizing Chibi Chibi, the ultimate villain, Chaos, who attacks through the manipulation of Sailor Galaxia and her Anima-Mates, and of course… Sailor Moon’s ultimate form (via some metaphysical gymnastics), Sailor Cosmos. Set for a Summer 2023 release, a new duology of films titled Sailor Moon Cosmos will finish what Sailor Moon Crystal began, a faithful-at times perhaps too faithful-adaptation of Naoko Takeuchi’s iconic manga. ![]() Now, nearly a year later, we have our answer. The only question that remained was when the final arc of the manga, Stars, would get the same treatment. This duology was highly anticipated since Sailor Moon Crystal was effectively cancelled after its well-received third season, and while some were concerned it might lack the runtime to adapt the arc authentically, the response was overwhelmingly positive. Sailor Moon Eternal, a duology of feature length animated films adapting the manga’s Dream arc, premiered in Japan back in January 2021 and dropped on Netflix the following June. ![]()

There is no equivalent because classic workers use the auto-supply option in the game options.Īutodrive detects the presence of bunker silos when you plot a course inside them. Setting the "field monitoring" mode directly from the vehicle. Loading from a field A then delivery to a destination B Selection possible from the vehicle.ĭitto but without the list of possible destinations with the obligation to create a task via the workers' menu and to point with the mouse to the destination. ![]() Here is a comparison of the operations that can be carried out with Autodrive on one side and the classic FS22 workers on the other.Ĭhoice of destination with search engine and classification by folder. On the other hand, if you are already quite comfortable with Courseplay and want to go even further to carry out more complex tasks (silage, harvest, supply, multiple deliveries, filling bunker silos), the answer is definitely yes. ![]() Indeed, Autodrive is probably one of the most intimidating mods to learn at the moment, as the settings are numerous and the creation of your road network tedious and sometimes delicate (to be done on each map). If you are satisfied with the current operation or automate very little of your agricultural work, the answer is obviously no.Let's start by answering this very legitimate question now that FS22 workers are able to go to the fields and make deliveries on their own thanks to the worker menu. Ny times delivery problem7/1/2023 ![]() ![]() By design, print subscribers were never sure if they were getting the best deal on their subscriptions, and that mentality has transferred over to its digital business. Why would it be so hard to be as explicit that? I ask that rhetorically, but from my experience as an employee I remember exactly why: The Times as a business remains both in thrall of and a prisoner of its old print mathematics, wherein pricing for delivery of the physical newspaper was complicated and subject to frequent and fleeting special promotions. It shows a certain amount of disrespect to customers for a company to choose not to present a full accounting of available offers, displayed plainly and in an easy-to-compare chart, so that anyone can fully understand all of the options and decide quickly. The total customer experience here is haphazard at best, and, at worst - I hate to say this because I am still friendly with many people at the company, but in truth there’s no way around it - it’s insulting. Note too that to reveal these rates, I had to hit the back button in my browser to return to the offer page and log in again each and every time. ![]() If I wanted a package that covers everything, Web site, smartphone app, and tablet app, the cost would have been US$8.75 per week. There was also a Web site-plus-tablet app package on offer for US$5.00 a week - why one is more expensive than the other, I have no idea. And what’s more, small print warned me that ‘applicable taxes’ apply - even though this is a purely digital subscription - so there was literally no way to determine the true cost of the subscription using the site itself.Īll of this was for the Web site-plus-smartphone app package. There was no true monthly rate listed, or even an annual rate. Who prices this stuff by the week?! In fact, even the company seemed unsure about measuring its subscription rates this way, as it occasionally referred to it as US$15 for every four weeks, which is still not the most straightforward way to calculate a subscription that you expect to run for a year. When I did so, only then did I find out that the regular rate is US$3.75 per week. When I clicked through on the offer, there was still no way to know what I’d be paying after those first two months were up, unless I logged in with my user account. I could have the first eight weeks for 99¢, but that was obviously just an introductory rate. Each email was unequivocal about the number of days that remained in my subscription, but the renewal rates were only hinted at. In the run up to my subscription expiring, the company had been sending me promotions that were urgent in their warnings but exasperating in their vagueness. The problem is that it’s so difficult for a customer to determine which of the many subscription choices really offer the best value. This is true even for a customer like me, who is dedicated to the brand, technically proficient and a former employee of the company. But the process of renewing was unpleasant and left me angry, and it wasn’t even about how expensive it was. ![]() For obvious reasons, I’m emotionally invested in The Times’ survival, and in fact would like to see it prosper for generations to come. My complimentary ‘digital subscription’ to The New York Times is coming to an end, so I just ponied up the equivalent of US$195 for a year’s renewal. ![]()

Simplenote alternative7/1/2023 ![]() You just write something and don’t worry about the rest.ĭespite being such an elementary task, it’s bewildering why I had to look for an alternative at the end of 2016, when most companies are trying to figure out how to achieve human-level accuracies in their system. ![]() It’s merely a list of your notes, comes with tagging abilities so that you can categorize them, has a recovery option in case you would like to restore a deleted file, even has a dark theme, and most importantly, manages multiple platform sync ideally. Simplenote is everything note-taking apps are supposed to be – they should digitally resemble the experience of a notepad in the most sophisticated way possible. It was time to move on, and after trying out a couple of other applications, I settled for Simplenote. That is somewhat ironic, given it is cross-platform compatible. It turns out Google Keep isn’t particularly impeccable at handling multiple device synchronizations. I did some searches and asked a bunch of my colleagues to see if there was any issue with everyone. It was outrageous as the research behind that took a significant amount of time, and watching it just disappear was utterly disappointing. ![]() ![]() As I was jotting down notes for a story on Google Keep, I noticed something peculiar – a major part of the file was missing. ![]()

![]() ![]() Thus, the historic opportunity was missed, and it would not resurface. ![]() In the end, however, it was decided by a vote of 73 to 58 not to enact legislation that would begin the process of terminating slavery, but to wait for a later time when public opinion in the Commonwealth would be more ready to consider it. Thomas Jefferson Randolph, a grandson of Thomas Jefferson, offered a plan that would slowly emancipate slaves, with the phase out of the system to be complete in about a hundred years. ![]() Crowds thronged into the gallery to hear the two-week debate on whether or not the gradual emancipation of slaves was feasible, advisable, or even desirable. Denunciations of its evils and enunciations of its benefits, both vehement, rang out in the house chamber. Turner's revolt opened up a remarkably critical discussion of slavery the following year in the Virginia legislature in Richmond, particularly in the House of Delegates. For an account of Turner's insurrection, in his own words, see " The Confessions of Nat Turner" at EDSITEment-reviewed Digital History. It backfired on the cause of emancipation in the South because of the fear engendered at the prospect of former slaves, now freed and traveling about the countryside, seeking revenge on the slaveholders and southern society in general. One example was Nat Turner's revolt, which took place in Southampton County, Virginia, in 1831. Ironically, some events aimed at freeing the slaves resulted in a hardening of the slaveholders' position as guardians of the "peculiar institution." These arguments, and those of the opposing side, took shape in a nation growing in size and population while expanding both slavery and self-government. To comprehend how the enslavement of some human beings could be justified, especially in a nation that based its own independence on the truth that "all men are created equal," one need only read the justifications that were offered during the development of the American republic. This lesson plan will explore the wide-ranging debate over American slavery by presenting the lives of its leading opponents and defenders and the views they held about America's "peculiar institution." Guiding Questions To those who feared the emancipation of slaves because of the possibility of retaliation such as Turner's, slavery was indeed the "wolf by the ears," to use Jefferson's expression, that could not be safely let go. Given the success of Uncle Tom's Cabin, one might ask how slavery could be defended as late as the 1850s? Many southerners justified it on social and economic grounds, following South Carolina Senator John Calhoun in calling it a "positive good." Others pointed to the example of Nat Turner, a well-treated, literate slave who instigated a rebellion in 1831 that resulted in the massacre of nearly sixty white men, women, and children before his capture, and the deaths of almost two hundred blacks at the hands of white mobs. Selling 300,000 copies in its first year of publication, the book's popularity in the North revealed the growing sentiment against forcing people to live as chattel-human property that could be worked and disposed of practically at will. When Abraham Lincoln met Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of Uncle Tom's Cabin (1852), he was said to have remarked, "Is this the little woman who made this great war?" Such was the impact Stowe's novel had in exposing the inhumanity of slavery. ![]() |
